OLIVER DAHL '18

Oliver Dahl ’18, along with his siblings Hannah Rose ’16 and Sophie ’22, began attending Stuart Hall School in kindergarten. As an Upper School student, Oliver played basketball, was active in theatre, and excelled in the classroom, graduating as valedictorian of the Class of 2018. He was named a Fox Founders’ Scholar, won the Rotary Code of Ethics Award, and received the coveted Maria Pendleton Duval Award, which recognizes the student who, in the opinion of the faculty and staff, has most singularly contributed to the life of the School over his or her career at Stuart Hall. And that’s just the beginning.

Oliver is a creative, resourceful, and profoundly caring citizen of the world. When he sees a problem, he thinks deeply about how to address it in ways that are both practical and meaningful. From organizing a toy drive at Christmas to benefit needy children in our community when he was just a middle-schooler, to founding his own nonprofit, EVACE International, to help bring technology and education to a small island in the Philippines, he exemplifies our STU Grad Goals in the way he carries out his life on a daily basis. While simultaneously working on his college degree, Oliver serves full-time as EVACE’s Executive Director, ensuring that the people of its region break out of poverty through education. On an island where residents had no prior access to computers and the opportunities offered by modern technology, it established a program to help students learn English online, improve their math skills, and learn keyboarding and programming.  In so doing, they will be better prepared to pursue a college education, seek employment, and break the cycle of subsistence living. You can learn more about EVACE here:  https://www.evace.org/.

VICTORIA (TORI) BOTKIN KENNEDY '09

Victoria “Tori “ Botkin Kennedy ’09 began her Stuart Hall journey as a sixth-grader. Along the way, she was a four-sport athlete, an honor student, and a grateful and involved student. Tori, a day student from nearby Mount Sidney, VA, benefitted greatly from the small classes, diverse programs, and family atmosphere that Stuart Hall offered, while also learning important life skills such as resilience and adaptability during her seven years at Stuart Hall. Her professors at George Mason University often cited her excellent public speaking and research abilities while working on her undergraduate degree in history.

Though she originally planned for a career in law, Tori discovered an interest in environmental protection after working for several years in a different field. She now works as a Project Manager for Conservation Partners, where she builds relationships with landowners as she works on conservation easements and other land transactions. Tori has advocated on Capitol Hill about the importance of crucial funding for the environment in the Commonwealth of Virginia and is working on her M.B.A. while working full-time and raising a son with her husband, Greg.

Tori has remained active with Stuart Hall ever since graduation.  A loyal donor and class agent she is also a member of the School’s Alumni Council. As such, she works with the Mentorship Committee, which seeks to connect current students with Stuart Hall alumni so that they can build meaningful relationships that will benefit them both personally and professionally through their lives. KAITLYNN SNYDER '12

Kaitlynn Snyder ’12 attended Stuart Hall as a day student from Staunton. School work, cross country, lacrosse, and varsity basketball occupied her time in the Upper School, along with membership in E.L.A. and serving as a prefect. One of the sunniest and most contagiously positive members of her class, Kaitlynn lit out for New York City after graduation, earning a degree in applied physics from NYU Tandon.

Always academically curious, Kaitlynn made the decision during her junior year of college to audit a course designed for engineering majors – and ended up co-writing a textbook with her professor.

On top of her other demanding workload for school, Kaitlynn sometimes spent up to four hours a day doing historical research, organizing he book’s texts from her own handwritten notes and adding context to make the material more interesting to readers. Her work earned her a program fellowship and full scholarship to graduate school at NYU, where she is pursuing a Ph.D. in physics. She lives in New York City and enjoys seeing her fellow Stuart Hall graduates in the Big Apple!  You can learn more about Kaitlynn’s work here.
