Bonnie Fontenot Nielson

With unwavering devotion and service to the School, Bonnie Fontenot Nielson ’64 uplifts our hearts and our spirits every time she walks through the doors of Old Main. Crediting Linda Roller Livick ’53 for bringing her back into the Stuart Hall fold in the 1980s, Bonnie has a 25-year record of leadership service to the School. The great, great granddaughter of alumna Catherine Battaile Lewis Goodloe, Class of 1853, Bonnie has served with honor as president of the Alumnae/i Council, as a member of the Board of Trustees, and as a member of the Board of Governors. She was recognized for her great service to the School by being named a Distinguished Alumna in 1995, the highest award given to a former student.

Never resting on her laurels, Bonnie and her husband Dennis, also an ardent supporter of the School as well as an Honorary Distinguished alum, have hosted numerous events for the Stuart Hall community over the years. Enthusiastic, positive, and engaged, Bonnie and Dennis are now full-time Staunton residents and are our greatest cheerleaders—in the community, online, and at sporting events! Bonnie volunteers regularly at the School, helping with critical Development and Alumni tasks. For the past several years, Bonnie and Dennis have honored all Stuart Hall employees and their families by hosting a party in their honor, bringing other Board members and Staunton alumni in to serve those who serve our students.

As a School, we are blessed to have Bonnie and Dennis as models for our students and as part of our family. Not only do they give generously to the Annual Fund, but they have helped to secure the future of the School by including Stuart Hall in their estate plans. Bonnie explains, “I value the School for what it was when I was a student, but Dennis and I support it now because of the school it is today.”

Join Bonnie and Dennis as members of the J. Lewis Gibbs Legacy Society and help ensure that our beloved 176-year-old school will flourish for years to come.
