Who's leading the team?

Anita Sowers, Head Tennis Coach

Anita has been a tennis coach for many years. She was Staunton’s Lee High School Boy's Tennis Coach for 3 years from 2008 – 2010. This team won the District Championship and went on to Regionals. In 2019, she was the Waynesboro High School Boy's Tennis Coach. This team won the District Championship, placed second in Regionals, and went on to the State Championship level.

Starting in 2006, Anita was the administrative director for the Staunton Waynesboro Tennis Association’s local NJTL (National Junior Tennis League) summer tennis camp. She held this position for ten years. At the program’s height, this camp taught tennis to over 125 children every summer in Staunton and Waynesboro. In 2009, she became the on-court director of the program and continued this for 8 summers. She resumed instructing this camp in 2021 and 2022 when the camp was re-named YTC (Youth Tennis Camp.)

In addition, from 2012 to 2017, Anita taught private lessons, held clinics, and was a staff member for Nike Tennis Camps at Wintergreen Resort. She also managed the tennis pro shop during this time. Anita herself plays tennis frequently in Staunton and Charlottesville, playing on numerous USTA league teams.
