Lower School Academics

As a school community, we seek to instill the highest levels of scholarship, integrity, leadership, citizenship, and creativity in each student from the earliest grades.  The Lower School integrates core educational values with extensive enrichment programs, providing for the development of a well-rounded child who is both academically prepared to succeed and emotionally prepared to appreciate and contribute to the greater community. Beyond fostering a love of learning, we build confidence in the process of intellectual exploration, public speaking, and leadership.

Through our extensive leadership program, the Lower School ensures that students will take part in a leadership opportunity designed to elicit the best in each of our students.  These opportunities teach valuable life lessons whether through being a line leader in PreK, a school-wide food drive organizer in 2nd grade, a PreK reading buddy as a 3rd grader, or a literature circle discussion leader in the 5th grade.  Monthly assemblies and musical programs provide occasions for students to perform publicly for their families, and friends.  Each 5th grader presents a commencement speech for his or her capstone experience in public speaking.

The Lower School provides a nurturing environment that fosters the “5 C’s” of creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and character building.  We believe a focus on the arts, music, physical education, world languages, library, research skills, and technology, starting in PreK, is critical to our core academics.  Coupled with a comprehensive program of after-school athletics, we provide a unique learning experience at the elementary level free of state-mandated assessments.

Each student transitions from the Lower to Middle and Upper School prepared for a lifetime love of learning, leadership, integrity, and civic engagement.
